Assets for Independence (AFI) is the federal program that funds Individual Development Accounts (IDA) projects and related asset-building strategies.
Our grantees are using IDAs to make a real difference in people's lives. They have enabled more than 71,000 families to open IDA accounts. Upwards of 29,000 of these account holders have used their IDA savings to purchase homes, education and businesses. Some are using IDAs to help their children save for an education.
We are eager to award new grants to expand the reach of IDAs throughout the nation.
Would you like to bring IDAs to your community? Apply for an AFI grant to make your vision a reality. The next application deadline is June 25, 2010. Take the following steps to gear-up for the June application deadline:
Step 1 -- Request an application kit. Write to info@idaresources.org or call 1-866-778-6037. For application forms and other resources, go to the program website at http://www.acf.hhs.gov/assetbuilding and to the AFI Resource Center site at
