For a 4th year, the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program in Monmouth, Passaic and Atlantic counties of New Jersey celebrated EITC Awareness Day. Elizabeth Jennings, representing NDI's Real Economic Impact Tour, joined Community Enterprises Corporation, a subsidiary of Collaborative Support Programs of New Jersey Inc., Nova Debt, the United Way of Monmouth County, the Internal Revenue Service and volunteers to celebrate at the offices of Nova Debt in Freehold, NJ.
VITA partners help low-wage taxpayers file for free, claim favorable tax credits, secure the President’s economic stimulus checks, the economic recovery benefit, new home buyer and vehicle tax credits, energy credits and more. "Over the past three years we have trained and certified over 100 volunteers, transmitted over 600 tax returns, claimed over $125,000 in earned income tax credits (EITC), $52,000 in child tax credits (CTC), $19,000 in education tax credits, and refunded over $394,000 to low income wage earners including people with disabilities across the state…", said Peter Stahl of Community Enterprises Corporation, "and we couldn’t have done it without each of you sitting around the table."
