The National Disability Institute (NDI) is the leading sponsor of the Real Economic Impact Tour. As the only national organization promoting financial independence for persons with disabilities, on a national level, NDI creates collaborative opportunities for companies, community-based organizations and federal agencies to advance issues impacting income, employment, and access for millions with disabilities.
To create opportunities and choices to end the cycle of poverty among Americans with disabilities, NDI collaborates with leaders from the federal government, business, disability, philanthropic, and financial communities to direct capital, expertise and innovative technical assistance in four critical areas:
- Affordable and Accessible Housing;
- Asset Development and Savings Strategies;
- Financial Education and Benefits Counseling; and
- Utilization of Favorable Tax Provisions, Matched Savings Plans, and Work Incentives.
To support financial empowerment and literacy for people with disabilities, NDI provides training and technical assistance to stakeholders, which includes:
- Regional Housing Forums: National technical assistance on housing for people with disabilities;
- Research on affordable housing opportunities, health care and asset development strategies;
- Return-to-work training program for service providers, beneficiaries, families and state administrators; and
- Policy development at the federal, state and local levels.
