Volunteering

Hey Everybody!

I am volunteering at my church this week for vacation bible school.  I am having a great time with the little kids.  Anyways, what could volunteering have to do with college?  Well, some colleges do give scholarships and grants depending on how often one volunteers or volunteered.  I enjoy volunteering, but some don’t know where to start.  Well, if you are in high school like me, find a volunteering club, they will be happy to help you find places to volunteer.  Also, just doing a community search on the internet is a good idea.  There are so many places to volunteer, so open up that phone book and check out the local food and children’s shelters and get started.  Your help might be rewarded in more ways than you think!

Have Fun!

Yay! More scholarship sites!

Hey Everyone!

I have been looking around for scholarship sites and I found a few good ones that get you into contact with colleges that are interested in you!

They are

www.cappex.com

and

www.zinch.com

These sites are great! They focus on aspects of a student including grades, but doesn’t just focus on grades! These are great sites for any student in any educational or financial standing.

Thanks for reading!

The Jewish Guild for the Blind Scholarship

Hey Blog Readers!

My V.I. teacher, Mrs.Burger, has notified me of a new, amazing scholarship!  It awards 12 to 15 prizes up to $15,000 for high school juniors, soon to be seniors who are legally blind.

A FAQ about this scholarship is “Do you have to be Jewish to be eligible?”  The answer is no.  The Jewish Guild is just a group who is sponsering the scholarship.

I am so thankful to have been notified about this scholarship, I am definitly going to apply.  I hope to hear that some of you will be doing the same!

The application process is online and has a few requirements.

AP tests (Advanced Placement), ACT, and college credits. OH MY!

Hey guys,

Sorry I haven’t written in a while, but I have been VERY busy with school and getting ready for exams and such.

Anyways, recently, I took the ACT and recieved a 29.  I send my scores to my college of choice (Howard Payne University) and I was granted by the school nine semester hours, which saves me tons of money!  Also, I took my English III AP test, which basically, if passed, will grant me the English Language and Composition college credit.  It cost me $14 versus a few thousand, again, saves money.

I have realized, thanks to all of my amazing teachers, that the more dual credit and AP classes I take, I can save tons of money, and not to mention time, for me during the ever-so-important college years.  So, that’s my advice to high school students.  Take all the college classes you can, so then you can save money and have an easier, more relaxed college education.

Take Care!

Senior Survival Guide

Hey y’all!

I hope everyone is doing well!

This week has been pretty crazy!  My counsolers at school came to talk to all of the juniors about senior year and college.  The idea is very scary and exciting all at the same time!  Anyways, they passed out senior survival guide packets with tons of information in them.  As I read more and more in the packets, I realized that a lot of it is concerned with financial aid!  There are so many scholarships out there, including grants from the school and specialized ones for people with disabilities!  www.fastweb.com is a great source for scholarships as well.

I know that paying for college is a big factor in deciding which college to go to, but remember, do not limit yourself if you think that you can’t pay for a certain college.  There is always a way, whether it be working, scholarships, grants, or loans.

Take Care Everybody!

First Blog!

Hey y’all, it’s Cheryl/countrygal8891

First off, I would just like to say how excited I am for the REI Blogging Tour!  I am thrilled to be able to share my experiences with everyone.

Recently, I signed up for the ACT, a major part of college admissions.  The ACT is a standardized test that some colleges use for student entry.  Not all colleges use it, so taking the ACT and the SAT is highly recommended.  You need to pay for these tests, on average about $45.00 per exam, so save up if you need it.

Getting ready to apply for college and college planning are the first steps to securing your financial future.  It is an exciting and can be a scary process if you are new to the idea of college.  I am happy to help.  I can give advice on the subject matter or just talk if necessary.

Anyways, keep checking for a new blog!

Take Care
