Goodwill of Southern Nevada helps people with disabilities and barriers to employment find jobs by providing program and services for people who want to work. They agreed to distribute Ticket for Taxes coupons to clients of their workforce development services. They also agreed to provide Life Cycle Series publications (Living and Working with Disabilities and Birth through Childhood) though their Workforce Development Office. They would also like to develop an outreach effort aimed at employers, which would explain the tax credits and incentives for hiring the disabled.
Opportunity Village is the local chapter of The ARC of the United States. They operate work centers in Henderson and Las Vegas. Opportunity Village is interested in sponsoring a VITA Site. Opportunity Village will serve as an outreach partner.
Easter Seals of Southern Nevada would like to join the Vegas Valley Coalition and participate in forming a subcommittee of the Outreach/Asset Building Committee aimed at reaching out to the disabled community.
Nevada Center for Independent Living would like to join Vegas Coalition and participate in forming a subcommittee of the Outreach/Asset Building Committee aimed at reaching out to the disabled community.
United Way of Southern Nevada interested in Disability Initiative Outreach Committee. United Way provided contact information to other disability organizations.
Family Ties of Southern Nevada’s mission is to increase the hope, confidence and independence of people with disabilities of all ages and their circle of support through training, information, emotional support and advocacy. They attended a Disability Initiative presentation in December, and requested the TaxFacts Campaign presentation for the parents of Hidden Miracles. They have been disseminating Life Cycle Series publications (Birth Through Childhood and Living and Working with Disabilities) and VITA/TCE site information to their clients.
Henderson Allied Community Advocates helps families at risk of homelessness in Henderson and Southeast Las Vegas; they are a member of the Vegas Valley Coalition. They sponsor a VITA site in their office. They will distribute Life Cycle Series (Living and Working with Disabilities and Birth through Childhood) publications when they meet with clients.
GAB, Inc was created to provide leadership and vision in developing and implementing programs, which support, strengthen, and nurture families with disabilities in Nevada. They are a member of the Vegas Valley Coalition. They have agreed to host a Disability Initiative Committee planning meeting between themselves, Family Ties of Southern Nevada, Nevada Early Intervention and SPEC.
