Southern New Hampshire University

The Center for Community Economic Development & Disability at SNHU’s School of Community Economic Development is seeking proposals for NH based coalitions and networks specializing in free tax filing services, financial literacy, and asset building for low and moderate income families. A minimum of 2 awards ranging in size from $500-$3,000 will be made to coalitions that wish to expand their outreach and services to individuals and families who live or work in their community.

Participated on local MCAM cable channel. Tax Specialist taped a show with Southern New Hampshire University at the local cable station. The program was part of a special Manchester disability initiative and geared to the disabled community. Items discussed were: EITC, split refunds, TETR, CTC, and the elderly credit. The estimated audience was 30,000 viewers. Northeast Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services and Southern New Hampshire University are arranging for free tax preparation services for the deaf and hard of hearing community. The services are provided by fully trained faculty and student volunteers at the university as part of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program (VITA). SNHU is part of a national initiative, The Real Economic Impact Tour, designed to educate individuals and families with disabilities about tax credits, deductions, and income inclusions available to improve the economic livelihood of people with disabilities. SNHU created the first edition of BudgetWise, a financial education newsletter for people with disabilities brought to you by the Center for Community Economic Development & Disability (CCEDD) at Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU). The goal of this newsletter is to provide up to date information on money management and public benefit related issues to help plan for the future. BudgetWise will be offered on a quarterly basis, with special editions published on occasion. Each volume will include a cover story, provide the latest information on public benefit programs, such as Social Security and Medicaid; tips on saving and spending; and, showcase special program or resources that may be available.
