Other activities the Disability Initiative is promoting:
- Newsletter articles have been sent to all disability organizations.
- Stuffers printed by SSA for all SSDI and SSI recipients.
- Presentation made to Developmental Disability organizations in January about EITC and public benefits.
- Neighbor Works and Community Housing Services offering free online credit report to all VITA customers and will provide a brochure CreditSmart using Benefits Bank software that will provide certain federal and state benefits eligibility screening.
Disability Initiative Workgroup
Goodwill Industries Easter Seals
The Executive Director has agreed to take part in the Initiative. They are attending the meetings. Their involvement is increasing. This is a mobile tax preparation site.
The Arc
The Arc is hosting a “Tax Day” in February 2007 for consumers, their families, and Arc staff. Invited the Disability Initiative to take part in their parent and consumer workshops.
Easter Seals
In Kansas Goodwill and Easter Seals are combined. See Goodwill above.
United Cerebral Palsy
Cerebral Palsy Research Foundation is the primary partner in the Disability Initiative and one staff member is the chairman of the Initiative.
Independent Living Resource Center
Primary partner in the Disability Initiative. They are hosting meetings. ILRC sponsors a VITA site. One staff person is a member of the Initiative. One staff person is on the CORE committee.
United Way of the Plains
United Way is one of the primary partners of the Coalition and one staff member will coordinate all Wichita VITA sites this year.
Mayors Office - Office on Disability
The City ADA Director is part of the CORE Committee. City of Wichita is one of the primary partners of the Coalition and one staff member attended the Mayoral Summit in New York and is committed to a very visible event to promote the Disability Initiative. There are 3 Neighborhood City Hall’s that are hosting VITA sites.
Mental Health Association
Hosted a mobile tax site. They distributed literature.
Social Security Administration
Distribute flyers promoting EITC to all of their SSI and SSDI recipients.
