For Individuals with Disabilities & Their Families

I have a child with a disability. Are there tax credits available to me?

A person with earned income may claim a person with total and permanent disabilities of any age as a “qualifying child” for the EITC if that person otherwise meets the qualifying child rules for EITC i.e. relationship and residency. For example, parents may claim their adult children if they have such disabilities. A parent may claim the Child and Dependent Care Credit if they must pay someone to care for their child with a disability so that they can work regardless of the age of the child. In addition to credits, parents can deduct certain unreimbursed medical expenses. For more information download this PDF document: http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p502.pdf.
